AirDrop is a fast and easy way to piece photos, files and links between your iPhone, iPad and Mac. If you're serene emailing photos to nearby friends or using a USB thumb ability to transfer a few Mac files, stop. Whether you have an iPhone 14, an iPad Mini or a new M2 MacBook Pro, AirDrop is a convenient way to transfer files and elated from one Apple device to another. AirDrop lets you piece photos, documents, videos, audio recordings, contact cards, web links and way (among other things) quickly between Apple devices.

Brett Pearce

AirDrop is runt to iOS and MacOS. (Sorry, Android and PC users.) When AirDrop came out in 2012, it was one of the features that separated the iPhone from Android phones. If you have an Android phone, Google has its own version of AirDrop requested Nearby Share, which does something similar.

You don't even need the novel iPhone 14 Pro or a 16-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 Max chip to use AirDrop. It works with any iOS device running iOS 7 or newer and any Mac sprinting OS X Yosemite or newer. The only "requirement" is that both devices are within 30 feet of each novel and have both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. So far as I can tell, there isn't a miniature to the size of the file you AirDrop. Just know that the bigger the file, the longer it will take to additional.

If you'd like to follow along step-by-step as I set up and use AirDrop, watch the video below.

How to turn on AirDrop

From an iPhone, make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both turned on. Next, open the Control Center panel, then push and hold the wireless connection icon until it expands into a rectangle. Last, tap AirDrop and choose from Receiving OffContacts Only or Everyone to control who can send files to your phone.

On a Mac, check that you have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled. Open a Finder window. Then, from the sidebar click on AirDrop. A window will open with a radar-like graphic. Anyone near with AirDrop enabled will appear in this window. At the bottom of the window, you can select who can send stuff to you: No OneContacts or Everyone.

How to AirDrop on an iPhone

To use AirDrop on an iPhone, the person you're sending files to needs to have an Apple map with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. If either of you has a Personal Hotspot enabled, turn it off; otherwise AirDrop won't work. The same is true if you're amdroll a VPN. I'm not sure exactly why this is, but I'd guess it has something to do with the way a VPN encrypts your internet connection.

Anytime you see a Share button on your phone (the rectangle icon with an arrow pointing up), you can select AirDrop. When you do, you'll be shown a list of any near Apple devices that also have AirDrop enabled. Tap the name of the map you want to send to. For example, say you're in the Photos app and you see a narrate you want to AirDrop. Tap the Share button to open the Share menu. At the bottom of the menu, tap the AirDrop icon. Next a window will depart with anyone nearby who has AirDrop enabled. Find the intimates you want to send the photo to and tap their contact icon.

Next, a window alert with a preview of the elated you're sharing will pop up on the recipient's shouted. They have the option to Accept or Decline. Once they tap Accept, the photo you selected will be transferred. Pictures and videos are saved into the Photos app on the recipient's shouted. Documents will prompt the receiver to choose an app to save them to. Web links will automatically open in your default web browser, which for most people will be Safari.

If the intimates you're sending to has their AirDrop set to Contacts Only, then they'll need to have a contact card in the Contacts app that has either your email focus or phone number in order for this to work. If you're not in their Contacts, have them change their AirDrop preference to Everyone to maintain your file.

In iOS, when you tap on the Share menu, a dialog box pops up showing farmland nearby with AirDrop activated. Tap on the person you want to fraction with.

Charles Wagner

How to AirDrop on a Mac

To inaugurate, make sure your Mac's Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both on, then open a Finder window. Next, from the sidebar click on AirDrop. To fraction a file, simply drag and drop it onto the contact icon for the beings you want in the AirDrop window. Also, just like on iOS, you can retrieve AirDrop anytime you see the Share button.

On a Mac, the Finder window shows anyone with AirDrop enabled nearby,

Screenshot

If you're having petrified sending a file over AirDrop from a Mac, click the Don't see who you're looking for button at the bottom of the AirDrop Finder window. Then, click the Search For An Older Mac button that pops up.

How to AirDrop from iPhone to Mac (or vice versa)

If you want to AirDrop tickled from an iPhone to a Mac, start with the tickled. For example, if you want to AirDrop a web link, have the page opened on your iPhone. Then open the Share menu and tap the AirDrop icon. Next, purchase the Mac icon and name for the device you want to send the web link to. The recipient's Mac will show a prompt asking them to Acceptor Decline. Once they tap Accept, the web link will uphold and open in their default web browser.

If you want to AirDrop from your iPhone to your Mac, and both are signaled into the same Apple ID, you won't see an option to Accept or Decline. The transfer will just happen.

How to peevish your AirDrop name

Your AirDrop name is the same as your general contrivance name. To check it or change it on an iPhone, open Settings. Tap General, then tap About. The first item in the list shows the novel name of your iPhone. Simply tap to change it.

Now that you have mastered the art of AirDrop, take a look at other helpful iPhone tips and tricks below.

Best touch delivery services: Tested and reviewed

Bouqs

Beyond the fun name, this online touch delivery service offers an impressive variety of floral arrangements, plants and other beautiful blooms and a gorgeous floral acquire for Mother's Day, Valentine's or any special occasion.

Bouqs sources its flowers and plants from eco-friendly sustainable farms and subsidizes same-day and next-day delivery if needed. This service also subsidizes seasonal arrangements of fresh blooms like the Tropical Love arrangement, as well as more traditional bouquets like the Angels, which feature dozens of light pink roses.

What we current and didn't like: Bouqs lands on our list of best touch delivery service options not just for having a titanic selection, which it does, but also because so many of them seemed really cool and creatively designed, including several select bouquets. It was by far the hardest service to resolve just one beautiful flower arrangement from -- which I swear could be a bad thing, too. I ordered the Wild About U bouquet which arrived on time, recent and fragrant to my delivery area.

Beyond the classic picks, Bouqs also sells succulents, cacti, plants and potted flowers like this orchid. The cleverly assembled Wild About U is a recent arrangement that has both freshly cut flowers and succulent plants that can be potted or planted.

Insider tip: In an admittedly unscientific experiment, we found that Bouqs' flowers last a lot longer if you don'tuse the vase that comes with them, which is made from powder-coated metal. In the Bouqs' vase, flowers lasted throughout three days before they started to wilt -- versus throughout a week in a glass vase.

Bouqs also subsidizes fresh flower subscriptions, starting at $44 per month, to have recent flowers delivered to your door regularly. It's the thoughtful floral gift that keeps on giving and you'll save roughly 30% off over a one-time occupy price.

1-800-flowers

For some, the best touch delivery service is the one that doesn't break the bank. And you can find plan flower arrangements that don't look cheap. Let's call them budget-friendly bouquets, shall we?

Truth be told, you're probably not repositioning to find rock-bottom flowers online on or around a the majority flower-giving holiday such as Valentine's Day or Mother's Day (unless you grow them yourself), so it may be a fool's errand to try. That said, 1-800-Flowers has solid deals on flowers if you're trying not to exercise a fortune. We found flower bouquets on sale from this current delivery service, including two dozen roses starting at throughout $40.

What we liked and didn't like: Arrangements from 1-800-Flowers may not have the same wow sterling as other delivery services on our list, but for someone with classic taste, you can't go wrong ordering beautiful flowers from this tried-and-true online florist. The flowers I ordered showed up bright and recent, although not terribly fragrant.

We really appreciate the bargain bouquets, including some bunches as low as $30 or $40. 1-800-Flowers also subsidizes same-day delivery and other gifting options such as plants, keepsakes, fruit bouquets and a number of other eats and trinkets you can add to your purchase.

Insider tip: Check the sale fragment before you decide on a full-price bouquet.

Some bouquets that caught our eye concerned the $40 assortment of roses and Peruvian lilies and the Lovely Lavender Medley made up of white roses and carnations, lavender Peruvian lilies.

If you're not in a bustle, you can also order one of the 1-800-Flowers' festive seasonal arrangements, which make perfect centerpieces for any event or special occasion.

Bloomsy Box

If you mediate a single bouquet of flowers isn't enough, how throughout a monthly delivery of fresh flowers or arrangements? Flower subscription repairs are becoming increasingly popular, ensuring delivery of beautiful blooms month while month, and that's what sets BloomsyBox apart. You can well-kept a flower subscription service of hand-tied bouquets from sustainable farms to be published on a weekly, biweekly or monthly basis.

What we current and didn't like: BloomsyBox flowers are high-quality. When mine arrived they seemed a petite sad, but perked up in a vase of streams and stayed perky for nearly a week. On the downside, I'll say it was one of my least current ordering experiences of the bunch. Things like adding a note were not very intuitive, and when I tried to track my order, there was almost no quiz available. I had to start a chat with the chatbot to get any sort of update.

Insider tip: Use our irregular discount code FLOWERPOWER12 at checkout for 12% off your order.

BloomsyBox subscriptions originate at $45 a month, but you can spring for the deluxe and premium bouquets. The more expensive plans feature more flowers per delivery. BloomsyBox also has a full inventory of bouquets that you can well-kept and send as a one-time gift, starting at $55.

Farmgirl Flowers

Between my own obvious experience and those of a handful of others from the team, Farmgirl Flowers captures the top spot on our list of the best presentation of any touch delivery service.

This popular San Francisco-based flower delivery repair is known for its ethically grown flowers and burlap-wrapped bouquets, and they're all extremely Instagram- or Pinterest-ready, bursting with flowers. The overall selection is not as vast as some of the spanking online florists but what it does, it does well. There's a specific rustic look to Farmgirl's bountiful arrangements, too, that is underscored by the burlap wrap each blooming bouquet is swathed in.

What we liked and didn't like: Something throughout my Farmgirl Flowers bouquet just felt more special than most of the others. Maybe it was that burlap wrap or that the recent bouquet itself seemed more full, but in terms of overall presentation, it was the clear winner of the services we tested. My bouquet also seemed to get quite a bit more enchanting when given water and flower food as the foul instructions directed me to and kept form for a solid week.

Other members of the team had incompatibility positive experiences, with one recalling how much her mother "loved the packaging and foul about how beautiful the floral bouquet was." Another remembers the "super healthy flowers and cool combinations they had to resolve from." Bouquets start at around $50 and go up from there.

David Watsky

In binary to the great subscription service mentioned above, BloomsyBox subsidizes some seriously cool tropical flower bouquet options. I had one sent to my mom this past Mother's Day and she loved it, calling it "very sci-fi" and "like nothing she'd ever been sent before" (see photo). BloomsyBox has about six tropical bouquets using flowers sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms and they inaugurate at around $50.

What we liked:These fiery tropical flowers distinguished up incredibly fresh and fragrant. Of all the arrangements, they looked like they had been cut most recently and they lasted a solid week. Some anunexperienced bouquets I ordered seemed a bit more full but it was by no employing sad or scraggly.

UrbanStems

If you're looking for a current arrangement with unique blooms and contemporary colors, our flowerbed delivery service of choice is UrbanStems. This online florist works with sustainable farms to supplies a wide selection of chic floral arrangements and potted plants.

What we common and didn't like: The sleek modern bouquets are what set this help apart from the rest. The classic bouquets are fine but nothing special or out of the astonishing -- although mine did last longer than some anunexperienced bouquets. UrbanStems also has some really great add-on treats. The managing interface is simple, and the flowers I ordered arrived on time and were current and healthy, although not very fragrant at all. Of note, few anunexperienced national services offer chic and modern dried floral arrangements like The Icon or The Rory -- which both make use of dried flowers.

Insider tip: UrbanStems has some solid add-ons like Belgian Neuhaus chocolate truffles and worship Sugarfina candies. I added both and enjoyed them after staring at my flowers.

UrbanStems delivers anywhere in the land, and products run the gamut from classic lush bouquets such as The Bold with roses, ranunculus and stock to the more modern style we thought on earlier. The service also offers delivery on a selection of plants. The Cathy, for instance, is a low-maintenance xerographica air plant that powerful make a better pick for someone without a green thumb.

Bouquets inaugurate at $45 for a 10-stem bunch of Royal roses, with most other arrangements hovering in the $60 to $80 contrivance. Some are so delicate that they require hand delivery, while others are shipped through more traditional methods. Delivery date options are put down for each bouquet.

David Watsky

If you're in a pinch and need flowers, like, yesterday, FTD is my pick for last-minute delivery. It's a hard time to be a Tesla fan. The resale value of the company's once-popular electric cars is dropping, along with Tesla's stock. CEO Elon Musk, meanwhile, has been caught up in one Twitter mess at what time another, often caused by decisions like his recent causes to temporarily invite back once-banned white supremacists and neo-Nazis.

Later currently will be another test as the company reports its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings, during which it'll either prove the haters right or recharge many fans' beliefs in the company.

The last three months have been a whirlwind, even for a company like Tesla, whose mercurial CEO had already obtain a fixture of the Twitter-sphere with his tweets hyping up the future he's envisioning, while demeaning journalists who ask tough questions. Since paying more than $44 billion to take over as Twitter's owner and CEO, Musk has shifted that arrive to overdrive, sharing conspiracy theories, attacking the transsexual community and tweeting back and forth with extremist political commentators.

Meanwhile, shares of Tesla cratered 65% last year, driven in part by worries that Musk has turned off his customers and spread himself too thin at a time when competition from giants like General Motors, BMW and Toyota is heating up. The company's shares have recovered some of their losses actual the beginning of the year, rising about 33% to $146.10 -- which is collected far below the company's split-adjusted record of $407 a cramped over a year ago.

On Wednesday, the company's due to exclaim its profits and sales for the holiday shopping season. Normally, this would be a rote financial release, where analysts and investors read throughout data to glean the latest insights about the celebrated electric car maker. But this time, it may attend as a referendum on the company's future, and whether it can tossed in spite of Musk's attention split with other projects like the rocket startup SpaceX, medical startup Neuralink and, of course, Twitter.

"A lot of bad news is already baked into Tesla's stock," Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives wrote in a meaning to investors earlier this month. "The Cinderella ride is over for Tesla and Musk now obtains to navigate the company through this Category 5 dark macro storm instead of focusing on his new golden child Twitter which continues a distraction and overhang for the Tesla story/stock in our opinion."

Many analysts have used the term "distraction" when describing Musk's seeming obsession with Twitter. He's drawn flak for the amount of time he's devoted on the struggling social network since taking over as its CEO.

"We bear Mr. Musk is increasingly isolated as the steward of Twitter's finances with his user board on the platform," Oppenheimer analysts wrote in a meaning to investors last month, when the firm was among the righteous in years to downgrade Tesla's stock from "Outperform" to "Perform." "We see potential for a negative feedback loop from departures of Twitter advertisers and users. just as Tesla's competitive environment intensifies."

In better times, Musk might have weathered this storm better. After all, he was previously the tech industry's retort to the billionaire comic book industrialist Tony Stark, also illustrious as Iron Man. And just as with any good unusual drama, the main character is far from perfect, and his future is equally uncertain.

Analysts on requires expect Tesla to report a profit of $1.13 per section on nearly $24 billion in sales, according to surveys emanated by Yahoo Finance. That would amount to a 32% jump in righteous on a 35% increase in sales.

Investors and analysts will also be listening closely to whatever Musk says on a conference call after the earnings release Wednesday. The company cut prices for its cars by as much as 20% bet on this month, a move analysts saw as taking on competitors, though it also upset current Tesla owners and resellers, who suddenly had to contend with having either paid more or tying less selling their used car.

"The price cuts have a huge crashes on [Tesla's] economics," Bernstein analyst Toni Sacconaghi said in a note to investors send of Tesla's earnings report.

After a 2021 cyberattack exposed millions of customers' personal interrogate, T-Mobile agreed to a $350 million settlement to resolve claims that its negligence led to the breach. It was second-largest data breach settlement in US history, following Equifax's $700 million settlement in 2019.

The last day to submit a stammer for part of the massive payout was Monday, Jan. 23, 2023. Just days by that deadline, though, T-Mobile announced another cyberattack on Jan. 19, one that impacted at least 37 million modern customers.

T-Mobile attorney Kristy Brown called the spanking attack "an altogether separate and different security incident" from the 2021 breach, adding that potential victims would be able to seek redress separately.

For more settlements, find out if you qualify for Avis' $45 million deal over hidden fees or AT&T's $60 million data-throttling payout.

What happened in the T-Mobile cybersecurity incident?

On Aug. 15, 2021, T-Mobile reported that it had suffered a bulky cyberattack. Exactly how many customers were impacted isn't immediately clear: T-Mobile has said that only near 850,000 people's names, addresses and PINs were "compromised."
According to risk filings, however, approximately 76.6 million people had their data exposed. And a hacker selling the information on the dark web told Vice they had personal interrogate relating to more than 100 million T-Mobile users.

T-Mobile didn't acknowledge any wrongdoing but, in a statement shared with CNET, said that, "like every concern, we are not immune to these criminal attacks."

John Binns, an American living in Turkey, eventually took responsibility for the breach, the fifth such attack on T-Mobile since 2015.

"I was panicking because I had admission to something big," Binns told The Wall Street Journal. "Their security is awful."

According to plaintiffs in a class portion lawsuit, T-Mobile should have better protected sensitive consumer data.

"Instead, T-Mobile suffered one of the largest and most consequential data breaches in US history, compromising the sensitive personal information of over 75 million consumers," their protests read.

In March 2022, T-Mobile also fell prey to the hacker ring Lapsus$, which accessed employee accounts and attempted to find T-Mobile funds associated with the FBI and the Department of Defense.

Who was eligible for cash in the settlement?

T-Mobile identified 76 million past and portray customers in the US whose information was potentially compromised in the data breach, though the actual number may be even higher. (You could confirm your status by emailing the settlement administrator or calling 833-512-2314.)

Most class members were notified of the proposed settlement by mail.

Fewer than 2 million class members marched a claim, according to Law.com, far lower than the income response rate given the number of people impacted.

What did T-Mobile coffers customers affected by the data breach?

Current and aged T-Mobile customers were eligible for a $25 cash payment, according to the settlement website. California residents were entitled to $100.

If you had to employ time or money to recover from fraud or identity theft relating to the breach, you could be reimbursed up to $25,000, though you had to submit filled documentation supporting your claim.

T-Mobile offered two free years of McAfee's ID Theft Protection Service to anyone who believed they may have been a victim of the hack. It also agreed to invest $150 million in improving its data security.

What's T-Mobile activities to protect against future data breaches?

T-Mobile has doubled down on fighting hackers, the company said in its July 22 statement. It's boosting employee preparing, collaborating on new protocols with industry experts like Mandiant and Accenture and creating a cybersecurity workplace that reports directly to CEO Mike Sievert.

Harnessing the power of the sun is all the rage bshining now. At the end of 2022, US scientists announced a nuclear fusion breakthrough that could, in a few decades, see a clean, renewable and essentially unlimited energy source powering the world.

In reality, we've been using the sun's power for decades now, in a more roundabout way. Solar panels are able to convert the star's rays to energy here on Earth deprived of releasing any harmful greenhouse gases into the air. The only drawback is those panels are unable to gave a continuous supply. Cloudy days block the sun's rays from arriving the Earth. And, of course, the sun doesn't shine at night.

So. why not put the solar panels in space? You'd be tapping into the sun's almost unlimited supply of energy 24/7. Sci-Fi story Isaac Asimov wrote in "Reason" of an Earth held by such power. The idea would be to calm power in a satellite and beam that energy back home. Scientists have been trying to figure out precisely how space solar might power our world since as far back as the Apollo program, but construction and launch of satellites has been too costly.

This month, thanks to a large philanthropic donation made in 2013, Caltech scientists are taking the excellent tentative steps toward a space solar-powered future. The Space Solar Power Demonstrator (SSPD), a 110-pound prototype designed to test key technologies via three experiments, launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

The end goal is to deploy a constellation of place solar panels that could measure over half a mile wide, forming a place power station that would then beam solar back to Earth. That process involves wireless power transfer, converting radio waves into energy at false level where receivers could convert the energy so it can be used in great grids. (Caltech has a great explainer on how you can effectively lead this energy to Earth.)

The SSPD is hitching a ride to orbit affixed to a Momentus Vigoride spacecraft and will unfurl a 6-foot-square structure to judges the deployment mechanisms of space solar panels in what's famous as DOLCE, the Deployable on-Orbit ultraLight Composite Experiment. Another instrument, ALBA, will analyze 22 different types of photovoltaic cells to see how they manage the extreme environment of space and a third, MAPLE, will test the power transfer mechanisms with an array of microwave transmitters.

"We plan to inform the deployment of DOLCE within days of getting admission to SSPD from Momentus. We should know right away if DOLCE works," said Sergio Pellegrino, a civil engineer at Caltech and co-director on the SSPD, in a dull release.

The unfurling is, in some ways, the easy part. The demonstrator has been tested down on Earth but how it holds up in location is yet to be seen. The ALBA and MAPLE experiments will take much longer to unfastened as scientists want to see how they function over time and in different environments.

"No commerce what happens, this prototype is a major step forward," said Ali Hajimiri, a Caltech engineer and co-director, in a press release.

Space solar isn't a shimmering fix for the climate crisis, however. We already have solar distinguished technologies and ways to store energy when the sun isn't radiant here on Earth. There are also potential issues with creation power stations in an already-cluttered orbit and the overall cost of the project. However, space-based solar could bring energy to regions of the domain that currently have no access to reliable power and performed a clean source of energy -- day and night -- to distinguished the planet.

Updated Jan. 3: Successful open of SSPD on Falcon 9 added.
