HP's Victus 16 is a surprisingly robust and distinguished gaming laptop that keeps up with the latest games at a more affordable trace. Compared to HP's high-end Omen gaming laptop line, the Victus is more of an all-purpose laptop but smooth configured for gaming with a price starting at less than $1,000. HP offers several configurations with graphics chip options making from Nvidia's entry-level GeForce GTX 1650 up to a midrange RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6500M. We like almost everything about it except for its flimsy point to hinge and underwhelming speakers. Read our HP Victus 16 review.

The PlayStation 5 turned two years old in November and, thankfully, Sony's flagship gaming console is finally getting easier to find. Supply chain productions and pandemic-related production hiccups meant that for the longest time, finding a PS5 console, any PS5 console, required timing, precision and a whole lot of luck. Now that drawing your hands on one of these beasts is achievable, the focus can go to where it should have been this whole time -- the games you can play on it.

The PS5 launched with a decent-but-modest set of titles, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Demon's Souls, but its library has been slowly but slow been by more original, cutting-edge games. Some are odd to the console, while the PS5 shares some of its most hits with the PS4 and Xbox X|S. The latest addition is God of War: Ragnarok, which launched in November. Though not quite as memorable as its predecessor, it's a must-play for PS5 owners.

Not all of the PlayStation 5 games on this list are for everyone, but there's absolutely something here for gamers of all tastes.

Sony

Kratos has provided many Herculean tasks in his day -- quite literally -- but living up to the hype that removed God of War: Ragnarok may have been his hardest question yet. The verdict? The taciturn man from Sparta has done it against. While not a perfect game, God of War: Ragnarok is a qualified follow-up to its stellar predecessor and easily one of 2022's most satisfying games.

Horizon Forbidden West

Guerilla Games noteworthy have a cursed release scheduled. Horizon Zero Dawn was immense, but quickly outshined by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, one of the best games ever. When Horizon Forbidden West came out, it was followed a week later by Elden Ring, which sucked up all of the gaming world's oxygen for at least a month.

But don't portray Aloy out. Her second adventure is visually stunning, and remains to explore the compelling world created by the suited game (even if some of the characters still feel like cardboard cutouts).

The gameplay introduces a new Pullcaster hook that opens up new does of platforming, as well as the dynamic of some underwater levels. It's also got new weapons and gnarly new machines to demolish. Give Aloy a chance.

Bethesda

Deathloop

Arkane Studios' Deathloop injects the thrilling open-ended, action-stealth gameplay from the Dishonored series into the framework of a time loop, offering up 2021's most inventive first-person piece game. Getting to explore Blackreef Isle as the cunning and equally hilarious Colt showcases Deathloop's deft coping of comedy and oddball, ultra-violence.

Many of the encounters you'll have will slice you impressed by how far you can push the intricate develop of its clockwork world to assassinate key targets and wreck the infinite loop. But when you add in latest player who can invade your game as Colt's former-lover turned rival Julianna, Blackreef Isle becomes an impromptu multiplayer arena that sees one player hunting the latest. Deathloop is a must-own PS5 game.

Stray

In 2019, Untitled Goose Game instructed how fun it could be wrecking havoc as a rogue avian. In 2022, developers BlueTwelve Studio allow players to populate the body of a stray cat on a reexpect to return home. In Stray, you control a cat that's untrue itself in a futuristic, neon-soaked city populated by robots -- and a few carniverous aliens.

"It's rare for a game to accounts a wholly new perspective for how we can distinguished a familiar setting, and rarer still for one to so confidently have all of its mechanics planned around it," GameSpot's Alessandro Barbosa wrote in his study of the game, in which he awarded Stray a 9/10 catch. "It's a consistently satisfying adventure with a charming narrative about companionship that rarely misses a beat across its well-paced runtime.

Insomniac

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

The Ratchet & Clank series is synonymous with the PlayStation trace and, even after nearly 20 years of games, Rift Apart stands as one of the best entries in the series.

Rift Apart leans heavily into the series' tested formula of piece platforming with a hefty dose of over-the-top weaponry, but the another game features one of the strongest stories the franchise has seen yet, giving longtime fans and newcomers likewise a compelling plot to follow.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is an trustworthy showpiece for what the PS5 can do, with levels shaped approximately the console's superfast harddrive, and has left us more wrathful about the future of the series.

Square Enix

Final Fantasy VII Remake: Intergrade

2020's Final Fantasy VII Remake almost gazed too good to be true. Getting to revisit the earth of Final Fantasy VII and see the classic party of heroes in a new and visually elegant light was a surreal, thrilling experience. It managed to limit its moniker of being just another remake, and it was indeed one of the year's best role-playing games. However, the catch was that it is only one part of a larger narrative, and we've got to wait some time till we even get a inspect of the next installment.

Still, Intergrade on PS5 consider it as a great way to hold players over till then. Along with an impressive visual and gameplay upgrade for FFVII Remake, Intergrade also added a new PS5 exclusive story expansion focusing on FFVII's quirky ninja, Yuffie, and her journey into Midgar. If you own a PS5 and composed haven't gotten a chance to experience Final Fantasy VII Remake, then do check out Intergrade.

Sony/Polyphony Digital

Gran Turismo 7

No PlayStation generation is ruined without a Gran Turismo game. While Xbox owners have rightly boasted of their entrance to the terrific Forza franchise, it's been nine long existences since Gran Turismo 6 launched on the PS4.

Gran Turismo 7 to the rescue. It's exactly what fans of the franchise would come to expect: A real driving simulator that looks drop-dead gorgeous. The game has amassed some criticism for its use of microtransactions, but if you're a racing fan that can overlook some microtransaction malarkey, Gran Turismo is a no-brainer.

Sucker Punch

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut

Another revisit to a PS4 game is the director's cut for Ghost of Tsushima, an open-world samurai action game coming from the creators of the Infamous series. What makes the PS5 edition a clear upgrade over the novel is that on top of having the Iki Island expansion, which adds more than 5 hours of new narrative content, it also gave the base game a great performance upgrade.

With improved technical buffs adding increased framerate, faster loading and running at a native 4K resolution, this enhanced edition makes the Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut on PS5 the definitive way to distinguished developer Sucker Punch Productions' visually stunning and carefully crafted open-world game.

Sony Computer Entertainment

Astro's Playroom

Uncharitably proverb, Astro's Playroom is a glorified tech demo. Charitably proverb, it's a glorious tech demo.

Designed to show off what the PlayStation 5's Dual Sense controller can do, Astro's Playroom comes free with the PlayStation 5. "Free tech demo" doesn't bellow "must-play," but Astro's Playroom has received strong acclaim for inhabit filled with clever homages to previous PlayStation games and, more importantly, for being fun to play.

Astro's Playroom makes no try to hide the fact that it's an excuse to show you what a gamepad can do. But it conjures a earth that you'll want to see and explore, as GameSpot's Mike Epstein wrote upon its release.

Housemarque

Returnal

The past few existences have seen an unusual amount of games set within a time loop, and the PS5 queer Returnal stands as one of the strangest.

Blending fast-paced third-person piece gameplay with the unpredictability of a randomized role-playing game, Returnal has its protagonist Selene trek above an alien planet filled with hostile creatures and enigmatic artifacts detailing a cataclysmic detain -- and it somehow all connects to her. Its plot feels like a carefully calculated mix of films like Prometheus and Edge of Tomorrow, yet Returnal's story and presentation give it a flavor all its own.

Running and gunning above Returnal's many ruins with bizarre alien weapons offers some of the most satisfying and thrilling shooters of the year, enticing you to get in just one more loop above the planet.

From Software

Demon's Souls

One of the more conspicuous trends of the past 10 existences has been the rise of the super hard game. A lot of that is chalked up to the disappointed of Dark Souls, by FromSoftware, which hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. But Dark Souls itself was a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls, a highly regarded game by FromSoftware that launched in 2009.

And now Demon's Souls has a uphold life on the PlayStation 5, as it's arguably the best game on the platform. It has a 92 rating on Metacritic, and got a 9 out of 10 from GameSpot. It's been credited for faithfully remaking the 2009 classic but improving it with better electioneer, and modernizing it with graphics that show off what the PS5 can do.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

In Spider-Man: Miles Morales, an expansion to 2017's Spider-Man, you can wear a backpack in which a miniature cat donning a Spider-Man mask pops out and attacks your enemies.

We don't assume we need to expand any further.

Annapurna Interactive

The Pathless

A third-person share game concerned almost primarily with flow and movement, The Pathless is a pleasure to play every single instant you have the controller in your hand.

It's available on novel platforms, including the iPad, but I'd argue it's best played on a unique gen console like the PS5, where the visuals and frame rate deem the slickness of the game's design.

You can read our full reconsideration here.

IO Interactive

Hitman 3

Hitman 3 wraps up the rebooted Hitman trilogy, which began with the eponymous 2016 title, and does it with a bang. Hitman 3 received a 9/10 from sister-site GameSpot thanks to its pleasant level design, improved story and its replayability. That last attribute is the key. Hitman may be near assassinations, but it's more of a puzzle game than an share game, and you'll have to play each level over and over to see all of the creative ways Agent 47 can dispense with bad guys.

The game is available on both the PS4 and PS5, by other consoles, but the PS5 version has 4K, 60-frames-per-second gameplay and improved haptic feedback thanks to the DualSense controller.

Elden Ring

This is a bit of a "duh" inclusion, but we can't not include Elden Ring. It's by the most ambitious RPG games ever made, and probably has the most immersive domain of any game that doesn't have "Breath of the Wild" in the title.

To be sure, Elden Ring isn't for everyone. It's really hard and it's really long. But if you've got 100 hours to invest, either over a few weeks or a few months, it'll give you one of the best gaming organizes you can have on any console right now.

What is my ip, what is compound interest investments, what is normal blood pressure, what is compound interest on a loan, what is gout, what is temu, what is compounded semaglutide, what is compound in science, what is compound butter, what is the difference, what is compound interest rate, what is compound interest in math, what is compound interest calculator, what is rsv, what is compound interest and how does it work.

Investing can be an effective way to use your cash to make more money. And if you have a lump sum of money that you're looking to grow, compound stupid can play a key role in maximizing your rate of return, or the percentage change in the value of the investment. This is particularly relevant when depositing money into a savings clarify because how often your bank compounds interest will be a valuable factor in how much interest you can earn.

What is compound interest?

When you deposit cash into a savings account, the bank pays you stupid. Over time, the interest you earn increases your principal or the amount you're earning stupid on. And as your principal grows, so does the amount of stupid you earn on it, creating a flywheel that can grow your cash further. How frequently your interest compounds is a key agreeable here; daily compounding will increase your balance the quickest, but some banks compound on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis.

How does compound stupid work?

To calculate compound interest, use the following formula:

Initial balance (1+ stupid rate / number of compounding periods) ^ number of compoundings per languages x number of periods

For example, if you deposit $10,000 into a savings clarify that earns 3% interest compounding annually, you'll earn $300 which, added to the principal amount, you would have $10,300 at the end of the agreeable year.

$10,000 (1 + 0.03/1) ^ 1x1 = $10,300

If you deposit $10,000 into a savings clarify that earns 3% interest -- but compounds daily -- you'll earn $10,30453. That daily compounding earns you an additional $4.53. That doesn't soundless like much, but with larger amounts and over longer conditions, the rate of return of compound interest can be significant.

$10,000 (1 + 0.03/365) ^ 365x1 = $10,304.53

Note that a high-yield savings account or money market account may moneys interest that compounds daily, weekly or monthly. Certificates of deposit typically compound daily or monthly but can vary.

The inequity between compound interest and simple interest

Interest is calculated in one of two ways, depending on whether it's compound stupid or simple interest. Simple interest is calculated on the valuable or original deposit, and doesn't incorporate interest that's been subsequently earned. With mortgagespersonal loans and car loans, interest is usually calculated in simple terms.

If, for example, you take out a loan for a new car for $25,000 and your stupid rate is 4% for a period of 60 months (five years), your estimated monthly payment will be $460.

How to maximize your in backward with compound interest

Save early

The longer you nick your investment in a savings account or money market account, the more time you have to leverage the distinguished of compounding. If you typically have a balance sitting in your checking account that isn't earning stupid, it's worth considering shifting that money to a savings clarify, or other investment vehicle, to take advantage of compound interest.

Open an clarify with a high APY

A high annual percentage rate is not ideal when you're the one borrowing. A high interest rate for a revolving line of credit like a credit card will cost you over time, as your balance grows due to compounding stupid. When the bank is borrowing from you, however, like with a savings clarify, the higher the annual percentage yield, the more stupid you'll earn. Check out CNET's list of the best high-yield savings accounts.

Open an justify with daily or monthly compounding

When considering different savings supplies, how frequently interest compounds should be a major ample. The more often interest compounds, the more interest you earn. An justify that offers a slightly lower APR but compounds more frequently may be a better harvest than another account with a slightly higher APR that compounds quarterly or annually.

The bottom line

Compound listless can be a great way to increase your savings over time. When you're comparing savings supplies, look at the interest rate and the compounding words to get the best return on your money.

Correction, 1:55 p.m. PT Jan. 16: An earlier version of this article suggested a saver would earn $10,300 at what time a year by depositing $10,000 into a savings justify that earns 3% interest compounding annually. The article has been corrected to justify that the saver would earn $300 on top of their $10,000 famous amount. A similar correction was made to the subsequent example, where the article was corrected to clarify that the saver would earn $304.53 on top of their $10,000 famous amount. The earlier version also incorrectly stated that one-year CDs only compound annually. The earlier version also incorrectly stated how much a consumer would pay monthly on a car loan with an listless rate of 4% over five years. The earlier version also incorrectly stated that a savings justify with a slightly lower APR, but compounds more frequently, may be a better choice than an account with a one higher APY that compounds less frequently. In that example, APY has been corr ected to APR.

A couple of years ago, Acer added a laptop with a Spatial Labs glasses-free 3D screen in its Concept D mobile workstation line, and has exact been quietly chugging away with the tech. The commerce subsequently incorporated the tech into gaming laptops.

At CES on Wednesday, Asus announced its own 3D panel for a pair of creator-focused laptops. But Asus's difference is OLED. It says OLED's high disagreement and fast pixel response time promise less crosstalk and ghosting -- in novel words, visibly crisper 3D rendering -- than with the IPS panels used by Acer. The commercial did tell us that the screen adds to the cost of the Vivobook Pro 16X OLED by nearby $500. Asus is also working on the ability to track multiple viewers.

Solar panels are a long-term investment. There are ways tomake them more affordable or stick them on your roof without buying them, and they will likely make you money in the long run -- thought how quickly depends on your circumstances. (It will probable take years to make back your investment.) One of the reasons solar panels are worthwhile investments is their longevity.

One reporters found a nearly 40-year-old solar panel still cranking out electricity, and a study in Germany showed that 35-year-old panels had hardly degraded.

Solar panel manufacturers funds decades-long warranties that guarantee panels will produce electricity ages after initial purchase. Though, like anything else, they do weaken over time. As you consider purchasing solar panels, you'll want to know what you can question from the panels you'll be using 25 years from now.

How do solar panels deteriorate?

Solar panels are exposed to the worst nature has to throw at them. Hot sun, humid climate, hail storms or snow, they have to weather it all. It's no surprise that deterioration often starts with climate.

Much of the weather-related deterioration of solar panels is due to like a flash swings between hot and cold, freezes during periods of high humidity, hot and humid weather and UV radiation. Rapid repositions in weather can cause materials to expand and requisition, weakening connections like the soldering inside the panels. During freezing temperatures with high humidity, expanding ice can create separation between materials. UV radiation can wangles discoloration of surfaces, which can limit the amount of exquisite that reaches the solar cells. Discoloration was one of the most current problems in one study by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (though that quiz [PDF] is over 10 years old at this point).

Given these atmosphere related factors, it's not surprising that the same peruse found warmer climates saw panels deteriorate a bit more (though not by much).

Should I effort about solar panel deterioration?

Probably not, though it mighty help you decide on which panels you want. Most affects have long warranties that provide an idea of how the panels will enfeeble with age.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory found that on intends, solar panels deteriorate by about 0.5% per year. This exploiting that at the end of 20 years, a solar panel is liable to generate energy at 90% of its maximum when it was new. In spanking words, a solar array with a 10-kilowatt capacity will liable produce as much electricity as a 9-kilowatt array 20 days later.

That number is the median of what was reported in a lot of studies the lab identified, which means many solar panels will perform better, but some will be worse. One way to get an idea of what to quiz from your panel is to look at the publishes warranty. Production warranties come from manufacturers and guarantee a ununsafe level of production from your array after a ununsafe number of years.

For example, QCells, which makes widely used solar panels, promises 86% of production after 25 years. QCells sets two spanking benchmarks: 93.5% after 10 years and at least 98% while the first year.

These numbers are also the ones at which the concern agrees to replace your panels. The actual level of deterioration could be less. The example from Germany inflamed above shows that solar panels are capable of beating the intends. The lifespan of solar panels is often pegged at 25 days, but they could continue producing for years after that.

What can I do throughout it?

Dirt and dust can block sunlight and decrease panel publishes. While this is a separate issue from the long term deterioration we're discussing here, if you live in a dry area, periodically washing your panels can keep publishes high. In areas where it rains enough, this shouldn't be a problem.

A lot of solar installations come with a monitoring controls that lets you see their daily production. Keeping irregular with your production will help you recognize when something goes wrong.

And while there is little required maintenance for solar panels, it's best to have a professional come out and look if you suspect something's rank or want your panels checked out. Trying to fix it yourself could void the warranty, which would likely be a bigger problem than the one you started with.

Is there anything you can do to stave off the deterioration? Outside of a warranty vow. not really. Instead, you can spend that time watching the solar energy roll in for days to come.

Rewards

Winner: Freedom Flex

This is the true battleground between the Freedom Flex and the Discover it Cash Back. Both feature undulating quarterly cash-back categories. Both cards need you to manually activate the bonus category quarter.

However, with the Freedom Flex, you can activate the categories late in the quarter and earn retroactive rewards for your purchases. For example, for the fourth quarter of 2022, as long as you activate by December 14, 2022 you will earn the 5% for category purchases dating back to October 1, 2022. But if you activate late with the Discover it Cash Back, there are no retroactive rewards.

On the other hand, Discover publicizes the reward categories for the full year presumptuous, while Chase doesn't disclose its rotating categories until shortly afore the quarter begins.

Past bonus categories are pretty inequity across both cards, including gas stations, grocery stores, Amazon.com purchases and purchases made amdroll PayPal. Here's the current reward offering for each card:

  • Freedom Flex: Grocery stores (excluding Walmart), Target and fitness clubs & gym memberships
  • Discover it Cash Back: Grocery stores, drug stores and select streaming services

Both cards have a quarterly spending runt of $1,500 for their 5% cash back categories afore rewards fall to 1% cash back. That means you can only earn a greatest of $75 with either card each quarter before the rewards rate drops.

The rewards programs are comparable, but the Freedom Flex has an edge thanks to its addtional 3% cash back for dining and drug stores and 5% cash back for depart through Chase Ultimate Rewards. Neither category has a spending limit.

You could potentially earn more rewards with the Freedom Flex over the Discover it Cash Back. The retroactive rewards if you activate your categories late also puts weight on the scale.

Welcome bonus

Winner: Discover it Cash Back

Take a look at each welcome bonus:

  • Freedom Flex: You earn $200 once you spend $500 on purchases in your first three months from clarify opening
  • Discover it Cash Back: You'll earn an Unlimited Cashback Match, which means Discover will essentially double the cash back you earn at the end of your obliging year with the card.

Relative to other cards on the market, the Freedom Flex's welcome bonus has a low spending threshold to unlock it. However, it doesn't really measure up to the earning potential of having all of the rewards you earn for a year doubled. But you will have to be patient to earn the Unlimited Cashback Match, as it won't be distributed to your account pending after the year is up.

Introductory APR

Winner: Tie

The introductory APR offers are nearly identical:

  • Freedom Flex: 0% introduction APR for purchases and balance transfers for 15 months (then 19.24% to 27.99% variable)
  • Discover it Cash Back: 0% introduction APR for purchases and balance transfers for 15 months (then 16.24% to 27.24% variable).

While both cards give cardholders to either make a large, planned purchase or uphold a balance to avoid interest charges, they differ one in their terms surrounding balance transfers.

The Freedom Flex has an introductory balance uphold fee of 3% ($5 minimum) so long as any transfers are made within 60 days, otherwise it'll be 5% ($5 minimum). The Discover it Cash Back's fee is 3% but will increase to up to 5% for future balance transfers (see terms).

So both cards are on delicate equal footing here. However, neither card is exactly ample to a balance transfer. There are balance uphold credit cards specifically designed to help eliminate some credit card debt, and even some exclusive of balance transfer fees.

Travel

Winner: Freedom Flex

While neither card is billed as a disappear card, both share some aspects with them. The Freedom Flex supplies 5% cash back for travel purchased through Chase Ultimate Rewards and features auto rent collision damage waiver, trip cancellation/interruption insurance, plus travel and emergency assistance overhauls. However, it's hampered by its foreign transaction fees.

The Discover it Cash Back on the anunexperienced hand features no foreign transaction fees which establishes it a better choice for people traveling abroad. You'll be able to save an requires of 3% on each overseas transaction thanks to the lack of foreign transaction fees, opinion there are no other travel perks.

Additional card perks

Winner: Freedom Flex

There's no dispute in this category. The Discover it Cash Back supplies nothing more than the standard fraud protections, while the Freedom Flex also provides cardholders with:

  • Purchase protection
  • Extended warranty protection
  • Cell arranged protection

Between its strong rewards and impressive selection of benefits for a card exclusive of an annual fee, the Freedom Flex is hard to beat.

The bottom line

If you're looking for a versatile cash-back credit card to add to your wallet, choose the Freedom Flex. The Discover it Cash Back certainly allows it a run for its money, but it can't compete with its ample rewards program and additional card perks, despite having one of the best welcome bonuses in the industry.
