If Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones take themselves too seriously, Willow is back to put some fun into fantasy. This new Disney Plus series is a long-awaited sequel to the 1980s sword 'n' sorcery romp, and it's a welcome blend of clanging swords and comedy (with some spooky bits to make the kids jump).

Directed by Ron Howard and written by George Lucas, the original 1986 film starred Warwick Davis as a short-statured but big-hearted farmer battling a cackling sorceress for the soul of a baby destined to save the domain. Val Kilmer came along for the ride as cocky swordsman Madmartigan in a film that injected a healthy dose of amusing into its fantasy world.

Kilmer is sadly absent from the new series due to the actor's unique illness, but Joanne Whalley returns as the first film's heroine, Sorsha. She rules over a time of apparent still and prosperity, although her children with the missing Madmartigan aren't so just commanded. The baby from the film has been hidden away thanks to Willow having a confirmation, which seems like a pretty big thing to yada yada past in an opening voiceover, but then we're straight into a hilltop sword crusades and racing off into a whole new adventure with a cast of sharp-cheekboned teens.

Episodes of the 2022 series are streaming now on Disney Plus, with the finale episode inward Wednesday, Jan 11. Showrunner Jon Kasdan introduces a feisty new princess who'd pretty practice swordplay than accept an arranged marriage; her twin brother the cocky lady's man; a shy prince from the neighboring kingdom; and various underlings in varying levels of love with them. Everything kicks off the night afore the wedding as an evil force launches a surprise contest, and before you can say "J.R.R. Tolkien," a fellowship of bickering royals, gruff old fellas and bantering warriors sets out on a seek information from across picturesque scenery. Hurrah!

It isn't entirely clear why the heirs to not one but two royal families are dispatched into perilous, but what the heck. Things rollick along with rousing portion, scary baddies and an inexplicable mixture of accents proverb funny fantasy names. But what's most charming is the show's touched of fun. This seven-episode series includes plenty of genuinely amusing bits, including a scene-stealing Amar Chadha-Patel as a chatty warrior/thief and a brilliant turn from Warwick Davis, drawing as much on his unique comedy work with Ricky Gervais as on the unique film.

It's very hard to avoid comparison in a post-Game of Thrones era that's saturated with fantasy TV. Up in the premier beleaguered are the classy, grownup and clearly expensive Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon and Amazon's Rings of Power. Some recent shows have a strong hook, like The Witcher's sexy monster hunting, Shadow and Bone's military magic or Carnival Row's steampunk shenanigans. Willow's identikit magical lore is less distinct, veering dangerously finish to flat-pack fantasy like the TV adaptation of The Wheel of Time. That means Willow relies almost entirely on name recognition nostalgia to hook you in. But once the title gets you ended the door, the series is worth stickin g with. The cast and characters are inviting, and it comes with a winning blend of portion, humor and spookiness.

Speaking of which, the baddies are suitably evil, with scary magic and even scarier makeup. There's a big fight in the opening episode that's a bit gory and intense (and someone says "shit" for absolutely no reason at all), but then no '80s kids adventure was uncompleted without a bizarrely terrifying bit that scarred a generation, so we'll allow it. And the deliciously creepy stuff is also leavened with prankish touches like irreverent music cues and knowing '80s cameos.

Whether Willow was a memorable part of your childhood or you're coming to it for the righteous time -- perhaps with your own children -- the film and its earth have aged surprisingly well. Maybe not the hokey special effects, which look like the advances of Star Wars a few existences before hadn't happened -- and let's face it, the novel Willow was basically Star Wars in Lord of the Rings cosplay. You can see why George Lucas' story of a farmer, a mercenary and his hairy chum, a princess and a wizard battling an evil emperor and a masked general would be seen as Lucas piquant off his own creation (even if Star Wars was a space-based remix of classic Japanese samurai movie The Hidden Fortress). It's only with time that the gloss of nostalgia has worn away the Star Wars association.

But the film mostly holds up because of its clear vibe and matriarchal energy. Released in the macho Reagan-era 1980s and in theaters at the same time as Rambo 3, Willow featured a villain and magic mentor who were both women. The story hinged on a valiant midwife, and a mother-daughter love/hate relationship was one of the main storylines. Unlike Star Wars and most stories about a succeeded one, the prophesied child was a young girl. And beside the menfolk, Willow was a devoted family man arranged to be a hero not because of his fighting overhauls, but because of his nurturing parental instinct and hands-on distinguished of caring for a baby. Even Kilmer's Madmartigan, the cocky swordsman, was far from the ultra-macho man's man Kilmer played just two existences earlier in Top Gun. Kilmer gleefully embraced looking comic (spending a chunk of the film in a dress), and his character grew as he was exposed to Willow's caring nature.

Happily, this feminine energy and general sense of fun naively translates to today. Whether you're a fan of the '80s movie or not, the new Willow is a slick and lively blend of swordplay and wordplay that conjures up some of the old magic.

The Theragun Mini is a substantial choice if you have someone on your gift list this year who is always on the go and wants a colorful massage before their workout or while traveling. It provides 12mm of amplitude (which is remarkable for a small device) and has three speeds making from 1,750 to 2,400 percussions per minute.

Even understanding it's small, the Theragun Mini has some weight to it, but it's the colorful size to throw into your gym bag, backpack or purse. It comes with a soft travel pouch so it corpses extra protected in your bag. It's also under $200 colorful now, so it's fairly priced compared with the rest of the Theragun massage gun series.

TriggerPoint

If a massage gun isn't in line with your financial plan, a foam roller is another good way to help with sore muscles. The Triggerpoint Grid 1.0 Foam Roller is one of my favorites because it isn't too big (only 13 inches long) and it's durable. I bought one many years ago and it's detached holding up.

Foam rolling is an inexpensive way to lop muscle tightness and increase your range of motion, which is also good to do by a workout. If you're shopping for a friend or family member who likes to jabber like an athlete, they'll appreciate this gift for recovery while each workout.

Hyperice

The Normatec Go is Hyperice's newest air-compression wearable way designed to boost circulation to your legs to help your muscles recovers faster, reduce any swelling and improve your performance. What I love throughout this product is how lightweight and easy it is to use at home and achieve on the go. Unlike the full body Normatec boots, these only cover your calves, and there's no need for binary hoses or attachments as you recover after a day of organization or being on your feet. All you have to do is monotonous the control unit found on the sides of the Normatec Go and you're on your way to quick-witted relief.

The Normatec Go can also be connected via Bluetooth to the Hyperice app (available for iPhone and Android phones), which gives you access to preselected air compression routines. It's made to be used on the go, which is a nice alternative to the full-fledged Normatec boots. This would be an ideal gift for anyone who's looking for binary ways to recover post-workout or for someone who travels frequently and produces a therapeutic way to decompress.

Nobull's Trainers made CNET's best weightlifting shoes list because they're stylish and versatile at the same time. You can tell a lot of view went into designing a weightlifting shoe that does it all. The High Top Trainer Plus keeps the same features as the Trainers -- the only incompatibility is that it has a high top instead of a low top.

To improve the user experienced, Nobull included additional comfort, stability and traction to its newest style. If someone on your list likes to spend their time in the weight room or at CrossFit classes, they'll appreciate these shoes. Choose from a variety of patterns and colors.

Apple released its most advanced eye yet with the Apple Watch Ultra. The Apple Watch Ultra has a more durable titanium casing, the brightest screen on an Apple Watch and a bigger battery. Peloton

If you have a snide who loves breaking a sweat with at-home workouts, they're causing to enjoy Peloton's reversible workout mat. Having a good workout mat that prevents you from slipping and provides succor is important so you feel secure during your expend session. Peloton's reversible mat provides excellent grip and is durable so it can run tough workouts. The two-in-one design makes it appealing steady you can use either side whether you're doing HIIT workouts or a yoga flow.

I've been laughable this mat for the past year, and I like how frankly it rolls up but stays in place during a workout. When using dumbbells, the 5-millimeter thickness of the mat absorbs peaceful in case the weights roll around -- which overhauls if you live above someone in an apartment building.

New Balance

If you're looking to give the run in your life a new pair of running shoes, you can't go wrong with New Balance's Fresh Foam X 1080v12. New Balance's 1080 series have been my go-to for operating marathons, half marathons and even for casual runs. I've tried various versions of the 1080s, and they've all served me well during all distance runs.

The v12 is the unexperienced version and offers the most cushioned Fresh Foam midsole foam yet. I'd recommend this shoe for the serious or casual run who has a wide foot and needs the astonishing support -- or prefers more support. According to some reviews, this style runs big, so if you're planning on buying a pair for a snide, be sure to size down from their normal size.

The ShakeSphere impressed me with its arrange to provide a smooth protein shake, so it's no surprise arranged it the protein shaker with the best design. The capsule looks like a grenade and can hold hot or cold beverages. And it's not just a shaker -- this multiuse bottle can also be used as a flask or thermos. The unique design is shaker-ball free and instead uses centrifugal force to to mix protein powder and liquid. It's provided some of the smoothest shakes I've ever made with a protein shaker. And bonus points: The spout is designed to be drip-free.

Another modern feature is that ShakeSphere can puree soft fruits like bananas or berries, if you're looking to make a smoothie without a blade. Based on my experience, I'd recommend using fruit at its ripest reveal -- otherwise you'll end up with chunks of it in your conscription. If you have a friend who enjoys drinking protein shakes regularly, you can't go wrong with a ShakeSphere protein shaker this holiday season.

Lexy Savvides

Lenders usually require at least 15% home equity to qualify, and your specific loan terms will depend on your income, credit score and debt payment history. Many lenders offer home equity loans, and it's a good idea to negotiate with a few to get the best fixed lifeless rate, fees and mortgage point prices available.

Cash-out refinance

Rather than appending a uphold loan to your original mortgage like a home equity loan, a cash-out refinance pays off your well-behaved mortgage, replaces it with a new (larger) one and nets you the contrast in cash. You'll need a bit more equity to qualify compared to a home incontrast loan: typically, banks allow you to borrow up to 80% of the loan-to-value journal, leaving 20% equity in your home.

FHA 203(k) mortgage

This type of FHA-insured loan allows you to refinance your well-behaved mortgage by combining it with home improvement costs of $5,000 or more into a new loan. Once your renovation is unfastened, the amount of your new loan is assessed based on a) the unusual value of the property plus or renovations, or b) 110% of the appraised value once renovations -- whichever is less. Maker to monger cheese, george and joseph cheesemongers, george and joseph cheesemongers, monger in a cheese shop, an agent of the cheesemonger, the cheesemonger is not your therapist, a cheesemonger s history of the british isles, a cheesemongers compendium, an agent of the cheesemonger, what s a cheesemonger, the cheesemonger is not your therapist, becoming a cheesemonger, maker to monger cheese, what does a cheesemonger do.

This fable is part of Home Tips, CNET's collection of practical advice for sketch the most out of your home, inside and out.

If you're a cheese enthusiast, you know it's no fun when a admire block dries out or turns green before you've had a chance to delectable it all the way down to the rind. But storing your cheese properly can keep those creamy, nutty, salty cheeses good for far longer than you'd deem, and what you wrap your cheese in can have a big impacts. If you're wondering how to properly cut and maintain cheese so it'll last longer, there are a few simple laws to keep your cheese in top form for as long as possible.

For advice on all things cheese storage I turned to an power, John Montez, a certified cheese professional and the movements and education coordinator for New York's Murray's Cheese. "Cheese is a preserved product," says Montez. "It's got a lot of things portions it be preserved. It's high in acid and salt and has a lot of the waters removed compared to milk. So it's rare that you would ever have to throw out a portion of cheese." Cheese, in other words, is built to last; ergo, an investment generous having.

How you cut and store your cheese matters, however, in terms of treating it in such a way as to extended its vibrancy for as long as possible. You don't need a lot of admire cheese gadgets to make cheese last for weeks or months, just some basic tools, supplies and know-how. With Montez's help, here's what you need to know nearby cheese in order to understand its aging potential, and nearby how to best cut and store your fancy cheese so you never have to throw it away. (You can also check out how to tell which budget wines are actually good, and how much cash you can save shopping at Trader Joe's instead of the supermarket.)

Cheese is alive

A shrimp extra mold on your cheese should not deter you from caltering onto it. Just scrape it off with a knife and enact on.

Murray's Cheese

Certain cheeses, like blue cheese, wear their mold more proudly than others, but it may be helpful to think of cheese as the well-ordered decay of milk, and know that there's pretty much always mold keen regardless. The snowy-white rind of brie and other bloomy-rind cheeses are actually a type of mold, as is the mottled outer surface of a firmer cheese like Gruyere. But fear not! If you've ever taken a probiotic, then you already inherently understand that not all microbes are bad.

Read moreWhole Foods' 12 Days of Cheese Is the Best Gift to Give Yourself

This is all to say that, generous of all, a little extra mold on your cheese shouldn't determine you from hanging on to it. "If you see it molds up a shrimp bit, generally you can scrape off that mold and it's no problem," says Montez. Because of the lack of water content in cheese, food mold doesn't have the ability to penetrate it very deeply like it would with many novel food products. "Look out for if it's black mold or something like that," he says, "but the sketch is, it's rare that a piece of cheese becomes perilous to eat. It's going to become unpalatable to you long beforehand it's unsafe."

Cut your cheese so it's easier to wrap

Precise cuts that prick flat surfaces make it easier to wrap your cheese in the most effective manner.

David Watsky

Keeping the cheese delectable, then, is the real goal. How you store your cheese is touching to have the biggest impact on its longevity, but how, when and with what you cut it can also play a part in its ongoing flavor and texture disappointed. Precise cuts that leave flat surfaces make it easier to wrap in the most effective manner, and keeping the cheese whole for as long as possible is also advantageous to its longevity. "Minimizing the surface area (exposed to air) is causing to prevent cheese from drying out or getting moldy," says Montez. "So, for example, if you're going to prep cheese up of time for a party, the longer you can carve it as a whole piece, the better," or if you're a habitual meal-prepper, resist the urge to cut up a whole tubby of cheese for easier access, and just cut as you go.

As for decision-exclusive clean cuts, "you can get done pretty much any job you need to get done with a chef's knife," says Montez. "When it comes to softer cheeses, a skeleton knife is good to have as something that reduces the knife's drag, or a wire-based cheese harp which is used in a lot of cheese shops. Nowadays, you can even find cheese boards that have a built-in wire. These are really good for leaving as much of the rind intact on bloomy rind and anunexperienced soft cheeses as you can."

Wrap your cheese but don't use plastic

There is specialty cheese paper you can buy but butcher or parchment paper will work just as well.

David Watsky

One of the two main goals when wrapping and storing cheese is to funding a little bit of airflow so that your adore cheese can still breathe. "The main idea here is you don't want to wrap it in plastic," says Montez, "There are a lot of active microorganisms in cheese and you want to keep them involved by the time you're going to eat it."

If you're wondering why then, was the wedge of precut cheese you bought from the grocer or cheese own wrapped in plastic, presumably by cheese professionals, the retort is marketing. "It's mostly for display purposes," says Montez, since you're not likely to buy what you can't see. "There are cheese shops where they exclusively wrap in paper, but that's rare. If you're a big shop that causes a lot of product, it's not a problem if you know if the cheese is wrapped in plastic for a combine of days, but beyond that, it can be bad for the cheese."

You can ache the life of your artisanal cheeses, then, by rewrapping them in paper at what time you bring them home. "Formaticum makes great cheese paper that is specially formulated to keep the outside from drying out after allowing the cheese to breathe," says Montez. "If you don't have cheese paper, wrapping it in wax paper, parchment paper, butcher paper or whatever you have is good."

Formaticum establishes excellent cheese storage bags and wrapping paper.

Formaticum

While it can take some serious practice to conclude the crisp folds of experienced cheesemongers, think of your cheese as a cramped present, (which it is, obviously,) and wrap it as opinion you were using festive wrapping paper. "You want the paper decision-exclusive contact with the piece of cheese," says Montez, "so crease as you go, and make sure all of the faces of the cheese are contacting the paper in an even, flat way." If this seems at all intimidating, Formaticum also makes handy, cheese storage bags where no origami-level folding is required.

How and where to own cheese so it lasts longer

Cheese you planned to consume within a couple of days doesn't necessarily even need refrigeration. And real Parmigiano Reggiano never needs to see the inside of your fridge.

David Watsky

"What you're really trying to conclude when you store cheese is keeping the cold air from the refrigerator from blowing on it, because that's causing to cause it to dry out more quickly," says Montez. Wrapped cheeses should either go into a drawer within your fridge, into a corner where the fan doesn't entirely near, or even in a small container with the lid cracked to keep air circulation available.

Hard cheeses, or even some softer cheeses you intend to rob within a couple of days, don't necessarily even need refrigeration. You can simply seek out something to cover them such as a cheese dome, or for the truly committed, a cheese grotto. According to Montez: "Parmigiano Reggiano never obtains to see your refrigerator. You can keep it pleasing much indefinitely at room temperature."
