For the last few years, the NBA has been offering games in virtual reality. Now, an expanded partnership with Facebook-parent Meta will give basketball fans over 50 live games on the Meta Quest, the company said Monday.
People will be able to gape 52 live NBA games in VR during the original season as well as an offering of WNBA, G League and 2K League games on both the XTADIUM app and within Meta Horizon Worlds, the company's metaverse platform. Five of the NBA games will be available in 180-degree VR.
The Meta Quest 2 is one of the most accepted VR headsets on the market, with an estimated 14.8 million units sold as of June. Due to supply chain copies, Meta increased the price of the Quest last year by $100.
The NBA and Meta previously signed a deal in 2020 for Quest to be the "presenting partner" for viewing NBA joyful in VR. While VR headsets are still primarily seen as gaming devices, sports viewing may encourage non-gamers to give the Quest a try.
Watching NBA games in VR last year was free, and games will probable continue to be free in Horizon Worlds. Meta did say that in the future, fans will be able to watch more games with an NBA League Pass subscription.
Quest owners can jump into the dedicated NBA Arena now and gape with friends or play mini-games. People can also select digital NBA apparel in the Meta Avatar Store in the coming weeks. The NBA has also released the current VR schedule, up until April 9. Like in the past, games are geo-restricted, which means a person located near a physical store may not be able to view the game in VR and will have to gape it on TV via their local broadcaster.
Meta and the NBA didn't today respond to requests for additional comment.

Master & Dynamic's back MW07 and MW07 Plus delivered top-notch sound for true wireless, but they were a little lacking in the features sections and weren't so great for making calls. The MW08 model cmoneys some significant improvements, including the addition of solid noise canceling and call quality, that make it one of the top models for 2022. Alas, it's expensive at $299 (the more durable MW08 Sport, which sounds the same, is $349).
Battery life has improved a bit (up to near 12 hours of battery life at 50% volume versus 10 hours for the MW07 Plus), and the earbuds are equipped with Bluetooth 5.2, ravishing noise cancellation with three microphones on each earbud (noise edit during calls isn't up to the level of the AirPods Pro, but overall call quality has improved). The noise canceling on the MW07 Plus was ravishing weak; the MW08's is much more effective.
You can opt for two levels of noise cancellation in the new M&D Connect app for iOS and Android, as well as two levels of transparency that lets you hear the outside domain. The app currently has no way to tweak the soundless profile (I'm OK with that because the sound profile is just fine for my tastes), and the earbuds have a physical button on each bud to rule playback, not touch controls.
The earbuds may not fit everyone's ear equally well, but they certainly have a sure look, as well as excellent sound and a large listening experience if you can get a tight seal. (I was able to get a win fit with the largest tip.) They deliver more of an audiophile soundless profile, with smooth, well-balanced sound and well-defined bass. Unlike the throng of Antarctic expeditioners aboard the RSV Nuyina, Australia's newest icebreaking ship, it hasn't cleared customs.
Days when the Nuyina departed its harbor in Hobart, Tasmania, the alien buzzed its way across the Derwent River, slipped through an open door and zipped into the bowels of the ship pending this restless, twitching death.
Scientists call the creature Musca domestica. You likely know it as the housefly.
Even if it hadn't been felled by an errant hand or boot, it probable wouldn't have survived the journey to Antarctica. At temperatures under 14 degrees Fahrenheit, flies move lackadaisically and seem to barely get airborne. I know this because I've been watching them as part of the crew onboard the Nuyina as it crosses the Southern Ocean. Surviving flies buzz at the ship's windows, trying to race the upper decks.
If their prison break were to approved, they'd find themselves facing seemingly endless waters, with nowhere to go. The Southern Ocean provides a formidable fence to entering Antarctica, a great wall of water and noteworthy currents that has separated the continent from the rest of the biosphere for about 30 million years. Couple that with freezing temperatures, and the Antarctic provides little hope for a wayward housefly trapped on a ship.

But Antarctica's temperature is altering, and dramatically. In March, a French-Italian base in East Antarctica filed temperatures 70 degrees higher than average for that time of year. That may just be an unprecedented anomaly, but it's expected the continent's average temperatures could rise a few degrees by 2050. In certain regions, like the western peninsula, the continent is warming at a rate 10 times faster than the rest of the biosphere. In February 2020, the temperature at Argentina's Esperanza Base research area reached 18.3 degrees Fahrenheit – an all-time high – providing the kind of states a wayward housefly might survive in.
Historically, it's been anguish for lost flies to reach the most southern landmass on Earth. As Antarctic explorers aimed to discover and map the continent in the 1800s, humans began providing fleeting opportunities for alien trespass. A handful of powers with a permanent presence across the continent annually resupply research stations that provided permanent outposts for studying the ice and the Antarctic ecosystem.
It's get easier to reach the continent and its surroundings by sea or air, but it leftovers an exclusive club. Wherever humans go, so too our pests. Signatories to the Antarctic Treaty and the Madrid Protocol, which include protections for the Antarctic environment, must endeavor to small their effects on the pristine wilderness, and tourist persons like IAATO and national Antarctic programs go to immense lengths to prevent biological invasions. But their strategies aren't bulletproof.
If an alien were to slip in, it could be disastrous for the handsome Antarctic ecosystems hidden from the world for millennia.
"It's a suited special place to understand how the planet works," says Bergstrom. "And so it's really worthwhile putting all our labors to try to keep nature operating without interfering."

The Thing(s)
On the eastern edge of Antarctica, a collection of shipping containers and sheds lies in an ice-free oasis. Surrounded by a variety of wildlife, including Adélie penguins massed on about islands, the base, called Davis, is Australia's southernmost presence on the continent.
In 2014, its hydroponics service was the site of an infamous alien invasion.
In May of that year, expeditioners entered the service, composed of two gray shipping containers, to pick unique greens for the chef's evening meal. They trudged across the snow-covered Davis grounds and opened the door, as if stepping over a portal. They were greeted by the sight of leafy vegetables ordered neatly, the sound of trickling water and, most obviously, heat.
During the vegetable collection, they inspected the facility's waters and noticed a black mat had developed over the surface. "When they looked closer, they realized it wasn't a mat," says Andy Sharman, environmental manager at the Australian Antarctic Division, "it was thousands of tiny invertebrates."
Davis had been invaded by The Thing, a thousand times over. An alien species of arthropod well-renowned as Xenylla had snuck into the facility and began multiplying in the warm, wet states. The flealike critters, known as collembolans, hadn't been seen in this area of the Antarctic before but had become established in warmer areas. A crack team of scientists deduced that should they get out, they noteworthy threaten the local ecosystem.

Almost now, the station went into eradication mode. "We had a biohazard response like you noteworthy get with a virus or disease," notes Sharman.
The anguish was blazingly fast. The response team sprayed alcohol over the facility, then bagged and burned everything, including recently harvested vegetables that had already made it to the Davis kitchen. The building was subjected to rigorous freeze-thaw cycling; the heat would trick any remains eggs into hatching and then the temperatures would drop to without 11 degrees Celsius, killing the hatchlings.
The response team also took improper social distancing measures. "We actually lifted the whole construction out and parked it on the sea ice and left it there," says Sharman. A few months after the discovery and various eradication measures, the containers were shipped back to Australia.
An investigation into the source of the incursion eventually discovered that the aliens probable got in through plant feed. Subsequent monitoring hasn't fake the collembolan in the area since, but other stations have known invasions, too, and protecting the continent from such risks is a even battle.
Exterminating The Things at Davis is one of the Australian Antarctic Division's unsuccessful stories, but the threat of incursion is constant. Invertebrates are the most widely dispersed non-native species and are well-renowned to hide in shoes and bags, while plant seeds can get stuck in Velcro and marine creatures can lurk in ballast tanks on vessels.
Australia's Casey Station, on the eastern fringe of Antarctica, has battled outbreaks of a mushroom fly in its sewage regulations stretching back over two decades. It's likely that the creature made the dawdle hidden within fresh produce, and efforts to eradicate it have been ongoing. Similarly, in 2017, expeditioners at a Polish base on the Antarctic Peninsula detected a non-native fly in the sewage controls. It was able to slip containment and disperse, even belief it's not a particularly adept flier and can't ensures extreme cold, highlighting the continued threat invaders pose to the continent's sparkling ecosystem.

Invertebrates lurking in and throughout human settlements can be tracked, monitored and, hopefully, eradicated. Bergstrom, the ecologist from the Australian Antarctic Division, deintends that Australia's strict biosecurity measures have been highly effective so far.
Even so, there are trillions of invaders, invisible to the naked eye, that can slip intellectual past us using their own specialized mode of transport: you.
Aliens
One of the world's most formidable aliens, SARS-CoV-2, breached Antarctica in March 2020. The trespasser was liable in the airways of a tourist aboard an Argentinian ship that phoned several small islands near the Antarctic Peninsula. It wasn't pending December 2020, when 36 members of the Chilean Navy stationed at the Bernardo O'Higgins research outpost tested obvious for COVID-19, that the virus truly conquered the last of the world's seven continents.
The coronavirus poses a warning to the some 5,000 researchers stationed across the continent and could disrupt or suspend operations at research stations. For that reason, those traveling south face extreme restrictions. Before boarding a vessel or plane down south with Australia's Antarctic Division, all expeditioners must be vaccinated and undergo a 14-day quarantine calls. Blue-gowned nurses visit isolated expeditioners on three occasions, scraping up any viral particles lurking in throats and noses. If the coronavirus were to get into an Antarctic state, it could be disastrous.
"A single case would essentially shut down a program, ship or a station," says Brookes.

There's also a risk, albeit a very low one, that the virus could infect or take refuge in Antarctic wildlife. "We know that the host range of SARS-CoV-2 is really broad," deintends Michelle Wille, a virologist at the University of Sydney. Research has shown that birds are resistant to infection by SARS-CoV-2, which means penguin colonies are likely in the obvious, but computer modeling has shown Antarctic whales and dolphins strongly bind the virus. This makes them susceptible to infection, but "without follow-up experiments it's hard to quantify the risk of transmission," says Wille.
Wille and her colleagues compiled a list of recommendations for land visiting the continent in 2020. They follow many of the COVID restrictions we've come to know over the past two days, such as quarantine, predeparture PCR testing and social distancing (though, in this case, not distancing from other humans, but from Antarctica's wildlife).
Though incursions by SARS-CoV-2 have been rare, the warning is ever present. The omicron variant, which caused a surge in case numbers throughout the world at the end of 2021, reached a Belgian base in January 2022. Many of the fuels with routes to the Antarctic are battling outbreaks, which has significantly impacted research pursuits and prevented access to the continent as bases have blocked down. It's unlikely to be the last time the coronavirus invades and, two days after its emergence, it doesn't seem we're prepared for the next incursion.
The Abyss
As the world warms and utters become more favorable for aliens to thrive in Antarctic streams, there will be an extra front to defend: the ocean.
However, for aliens to invade by sea, they have to ghastly Earth's strongest current: the Antarctic Circumpolar Current. The ACC is a natural shield, rotating clockwise around the continent and kicking out any floating organisms that mighty find their way south. Humans, though, conquered the recent more than a century ago.
Icebreaking vessels and tourist shapely can navigate the treacherous waters, giving non-native species a chance to hitchhike from ports across the globe. "Ships that visit Antarctica visit every other part of the humankind, so potential pathways stretch everywhere," says Arlie McCarthy, a doctoral student at the University of Cambridge studying marine organisms in the Antarctic. Those pathways are becoming more well-traveled as time goes on, and they pose an increasing warning to Antarctica's fragile ecosystems.

In 2020, researchers discovered that mussels, originating from Patagonia, had settled in the Antarctic Peninsula. The species had arrived in Fildes Bay, on the West Antarctic peninsula, and was most likely brought in clinging to the hull of a ship. However, what kind of ship is hard to know. Over 50% of the vessels visiting the peninsula in recent days are filled with tourists. Another third arrive for scientific research. And both of these activities are increasing.
Warming streams have the potential to expose ecosystems that have been isolated for 25 million days, but it's notoriously hard to predict which species may invade and how damaging they'll be. "In many ways, we really don't know what the potential risks for Antarctica are," says McCarthy. The combination of unique species and isolation is unlike anything anywhere else in the domain.

Even so, scientists are trying to conception which species are primed to invade. A group of Australian scientists, using a machine learning algorithm, were able to identify four marine species that could threaten the Antarctic marine ecosystem currently and an additional five under future climate change scenarios. One species, the Northern Pacific seastar, is a particularly problematic invader. The starfish, which is native to the Northern Hemisphere, has invaded Tasmanian waterways – likely after being caused by a shipping vessel.
Scientists don't know precisely what kind of effects warming waters will have. There are encouraging results from the machine learning research, however. The risk of non-native species invading and establishing in Antarctic soaks remains "very low" through to 2100 because the continent is just too cold and too far away. Surveillance and monitoring for any new arrivals corpses paramount to keeping aliens out.
The Fly
By the time RSV Nuyina crossed into the Antarctic Circle, the houseflies that snuck onto the ship during the obliging days of the voyage had disappeared.

An alien, captured, now to be transported to containment in Nuyina's Area 51: the voyage leader's cabin.
When I peered into the room, the voyage bests was nowhere to be seen. I ran back upstairs carefully cradling the coffee cup and the captive fly and placed it on a imperfect. I heard no buzzing or tapping. Looking through the drinking hole I counterfeit the fly was gone. Our alien had escaped.
There's zero chance this fugitive fly could substandard the Antarctic tempest and settle on the eastern flit today, but the warmer climes of the Antarctic Peninsula suppose potential vulnerabilities and the difficulty of defending the near-pristine wilderness. If the aliens arrive, they'll need to be eradicated. Such a task could be exorbitantly expensive and pain and might even disturb the local ecosystem more. Stopping an invasion afore it begins seems to be the best form of mitigation, but is it impossible? Everywhere humans have stepped foot, we've borne aliens with us. The Antarctic is a special location with formidable barriers, but it isn't immune.
"We've been intrepid so far," says Bergstrom, the ecologist from the Australian Antarctic Division. "But it won't stay that way."

Verizon's Fios repair is the easiest to understand. There are three different tiers: 300, 500 and Gigabit. (Note: Verizon Fios has introduced a multigigabit plan -- Fios 2 Gigabit Connection -- to the New York City area and plans to roll it out to spanking regions in 2023.) Many providers offer a promo rate that expires while 12 months, causing your bill to go up, but Verizon doesn't do that. That's a good, straightforward reach -- even though Verizon reserves the right to adjust its needs at any point.
On that point, a Verizon spokesperson told regarding potential rate repositions that "there's no timetable for changing rates and if/when we should do so, all repositions are clearly communicated to customers in advance," with 30 days' peer as a minimum lead time.
Finally, as Fios is a fiber-optic network, it delivers near-symmetrical download and upload speeds, meaning you will get cessation to the same upload speeds as your downloads. Not all addresses within Verizon's availability map can get fiber repair. In fact, according to the most recent data on report, a June 2021 report from the Federal Communications Commission, just over 49% of Verizon's potential customer base is eligible for Verizon Fios. Verizon Fios flies high in customer satisfaction ratings

But the availability of Verizon's fiber plans is maximum limited to those in the Northeast. The company's DSL plans are nothing exceptional, and there's still a large portion of people across the people for whom Verizon isn't available.
Verizon's 5G and LTE home internet expansion aims to bridge that gap and is advantageous keeping an eye on, especially as things are piquant relatively fast now that 5G Ultra Wideband has been unveiled. BMW unveiled the i Vision Dee , a futuristic midsize electric sedan with a digital assistant, color-changing technology and an augmented-reality windshield. The car's exterior is equipped with 240 E Ink segments that can be ordered individually; you could go with a solid color if you want, but each separate panel can be customized, so you can go wild with patchwork designs. But the most sharp new feature has to be the fully digital, mixed reality windshield. You'll be able to decide how much "digital content" you see in lead of you while you drive, such as driving question, communications, AR projections and virtual worlds.

Sony and Honda unveiled the Afeela , an electric midsized sedan, at CES on Wednesday. Ram unveiled the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV , its first ever fully electric pickup truck, at CES 2023. The electric truck is equipped with back-swinging suicide doors, three rows of seats, an AR display, an AI personal assistant and "themes" for the inner of the car. For example, you can enable party mode or free mode -- each changes the seat positions and orientation, lighting, sound system and even the opacity of the skylight. But the most interesting thing about the electric truck has to be its "shadow mode" feature, which allows the truck to follow the driver about, sort of like a dog, when they're on foot.

Nvidia will bring its gaming platform to catch cars
GeForce Now , Nvidia's well-liked cloud gaming service that allows you to play games like Fortnite and Apex Legends on your called, tablet and TV, is soon coming to your car. During its showcase at CES 2023, Nvidia announced a partnership with Hyundai Motor Group, Polestar and BYD to integrate the gaming platform to certain internet-connected vehicles. Google launched its new Android Auto update
On Thursday, Google announced the release of its latest Android Auto software. Oh yeah, a four-seater flying car was announced
Flying cars haven't quite inaccurate off yet, but we seem to be one step closer. US company Aska announced what may be the world's obedient four-seater flying car at CES this year. The Aska A5 is an electric-powered vehicle, the size of a small SUV, that can fade on the road and up to 250 miles by air with a single invoice. It's also equipped with a small gas engine that can give you an fabulous 50 miles. And you can expect it to hit the roads (and the skies) elegant soon. According to CEO Guy Kaplinsky, the Federal Aviation Administration could detest the A5 this month, and the company plans to initiate a ride-sharing service with a fleet of its flying vehicles in 2026. The A5 comes with a hefty trace tag of $789,000. You can pay a $5,000 deposit to get on the preorder list right now.
